Among the stack of DVDs that now sits next to the TV, there was the entire set of The Office, series 1 and 2. The cool thing is that being BBC issue, they are audio described. What is wonderful about the UK version of The Office is that it is so painful to watch, and I miss that in the US version, that they’re now showing on Comedy Central. Interesting too is that there was an entire plot line about casual discrimination in the workplace, that was “demonstrated” by showing David’s and Gareth’s attitude to “the crippled… erm… handicapped”. There is a great example here, and another one here. The interesting thing is the completely realistic dialogue: what is being said in these two fragments can be heard all around you in daily life, if you scratch the surface a bit. I love the audio description. It isn’t often when I can follow a series or film from beginning to end, without needing others to fill in the gaps for me. I love film, and audio description should be offered always.

[edit: as I'm writing this, the Dutch side score a goal against Italy. And another one: the city goes wild!]
